It's 3 am, and I'm up waiting to start getting ready to head to the airport. I'm excited and so thankful. I woke up with a peace I know only comes from my Heavenly Father. My heart is so full.
I'm ready to go.
"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

The first of many...
After hours upon hours of studying, and hundreds {literally!} of flashcards, I have officially conquered my first test! I was pretty nervous about taking this test because I didn't know what to expect, and also because I put quite a bit of pressure on it, thinking it would set the tone for all of my other tests.
I spent this morning holed up in my room making so many flashcards my right hand started to have sympathy cramps for my left. But it was well worth it. After a few hours of sitting and studying, I figured it was time for a change in scenery and grabbed those faithful flashcards and headed to my Starbucks to pick up my paycheck, and grab an english tea. It turned out to be a good decision because after spending about a half an hour studying in the familiar Starbucks bustle, I felt confident, and realized I knew more than I thought I did.
I took the test, and while we were allowed to use our notes, I wanted to go fully off of memory to see how I would do. As I went through the questions, I found myself enjoying knowing and remembering the things I had spent so long studying, and I only missed one question! But because of the format of the test I decided to retake it and go for that 100%. I would have had it too if the answers didn't have to be so stinkin exact. I missed a "y" on "any" in a definition, so I ended up with a 98.74%. Oh well, I rocked it. And I know as long as I stay excited about learning and devoted to studying during training, I'll do just fine.
With this test out of the way I'm pretty excited to head off to training. Tomorrow is my last day in Dallas before I leave, and I have to finish up packing & preparing for this adventure. Sometimes it's hard to know when to be done. There's always one more thing you need! But I'm putting my trust in God knowing that He's got me and is guiding my hands in my packing, and my feet in my travels. We've got this!

Fancy That.
Yesterday as I was fighting the post-christmas returners, shoppers, and exchangers, I got a phone call from Hollywood, FL. I knew it was my airline, so I was quick to answer the phone, in the middle of a bustling mall. I ducked into a store and had to ask the clerk for a pen & paper, and proceeded to get my travel arrangements! December 30th, at 6:00am, I am headed to Ft. Lauderdale!
While she apologized for the inconvenience, she explained that I would be staying 45 minutes away from the training center, In Boca Raton. POOR ME. Class is scheduled to begin at 9am each morning, so I will have to be ready to hop on the shuttle each morning at 8. A cake walk for this early morning barista. While they thought of the 45 minute commute as a bad thing, I am actually thankful! I know the extra time just sitting in the morning will give me some quiet moments to study and be fully prepared for whatever the day brings. I am such a blessed blessed girl.
Highlights:
-FINALLY knowing my travel arrangements!/ Such a weight off my chest!
-Seeing my beautiful new home for the month of training... I won't suffer. :)
-Being almost ready in the shopping department! Today I must conquer luggage & shoes.
NON-Highlights:
-Somehow dropping my guard after the phonecall enough to let one of the kiosk guys do his buy this routine, AND I BOUGHT IT. He wore me down! After his 3rd attempt I bought his $60.00 dead sea mineral skin treatment for $27.00. I know Mom, you taught me better. I have been shamed. Duped into the bought something I didn't want or need club. Oh Well. You live and you learn, right? Dead Sea Minerals anyone?

Be careful when you wish for what you wish for...
I wanted a fresh start in 2012, I wanted to be on a positive path that would lead me toward new adventures and would be a bit more fulfilling than just working my job at Starbucks. I felt God pulling me and begin changing my heart, I knew that at the end of the year I would be doing something new. But what I didn't know, was how quickly, then slowly it would happen.
My email came the evening of December 22nd, and after printing out my 45 page workbook , I began searching for answers about training. I have a packing list & a shopping list full of "must-haves" before I leave the ground for Ft. Lauderdale. The toughest part about this timeline has been trying to work, celebrate Christmas, study the materials, and go shopping to get all of the things I need!
Bailey and I ventured out on the 23rd, {forgetting of course that it was December 23rd}, to the mall. When we got there and it was swarming with people on the outside we knew we were in for a treat! We decided to brave the crowds and see what we could find. It was madness in there. Not only were the stores looking like tornadoes had gone through them, the people looked like they had been through tragedy too. We saw some people sitting on the floor to take rest and one lady even sleeping on the floor with her bags surrounding her. Too much for this girl to handle. Seriously. Leaving 2 hours later with only 2 red button ups, and a black leather purse with no logos or flashy design to show for it, we were exhausted. Who knew it would be so hard to find khaki dress pants?
We rewarded ourselves with a girls night & Chipoltle for dinner.
It's Christmas morning and I'm waiting for the family to wake up before I have to head out to work. I've been up for quite a while because it's storming outside. I've been enjoying the reminder this morning of the power of God, as I listen to the thunder and watch my room light up occasionally. The best part is knowing that His power is full of love for me. The same God that created this earth and makes the rain fall and the sun rise, has given me the opportunity to follow my dreams and serve Him in ways I never thought possible. I am full of gratitude this morning, thinking over the past year. And wonder for where I'll be a year from now.

Waiting on the World to Change...or an E-mail.
Today is Saturday, December 22nd.
And I am waiting on an email.
This email gives me the information on training, my flight information, and what I'll need to bring for a month of hotel living. It's a big one. My training class begins on January 2nd, and we're supposed to fly out anytime between the 29th-31st. But it's Saturday, and Monday is Christmas Eve, so I am guessing I wont get the email until possibly the 26th... Oh my word.
The interview process went so quickly, & now it's stopped. It's enough to make a girl pretty nervous! But I know that this will be in God's timing. I just have to be patient. Prayers please!
In the meantime.. does anyone have any tips on how to pack beauty products for a month in a carry-on? Tips for extended hotel room stays? How to eat semi-healthy with no kitchen, & {possibly}no refrigerator? I'd like to not eat out too often if possible, I'm just not sure how to go about this. There is a pretty big lack of information on flight attendant training out there. I'm excited to be able to bring this blog with me and shed a little light on the subject.
Alright y'all, help a sister out, get to commenting. I need you. Please. :)
How I became a trainee, the good, the bad, & the awkward.
It all has happened so fast! On December 9th, I went to an open house where we had to speak about ourselves in front of a room of nervous applicants, luckily I was a little prepared, because I had read online that they require you to speak in front of the room. When it came time for "interview callbacks" my number & two of the friends I made were called!
Highlights:
-We bought a Zoo quote giving me the courage to walk in & try.
-Making friends, a girl named Ryan {bonded forever through having boy names!} and JP.
-Making an entire room laugh with barista humor... for those who know me... this is a first.
-Feeling like we were on American Idol when our numbers were called. Wondering if you're in the good room or the bad room, assessing the people they called with you...IT WAS THE GOOD ROOM!
My interview was set for Tuesday the 11th, after a quick chat with two flight attendants they called me back into the interview room where they explained I was invited to training! I could not believe how quickly they made each decision, it made me realize that they are truly watching each applicant from the moment we walk in. Thursday the 13th, I filled out all the paperwork for my background check, got fingerprinted, and had my drugtest. WHAT A WHIRLWIND.
Highlights:
-Finding out that JP had made it through as well!
-Meeting a group of other trainees who flagged me down through a window & introduced themselves.
-Having a very friendly tech guide me through my first drugtest. Joking about relaxing and just "letting it flow!"
-Driving JP & Carol to the drugtest facility, then bonding over dinner at Freebirds. I felt like I was getting a taste of my new life. So very happy.
**NOT HIGHLIGHTS**
-Seeing my first drama queen throw a fit, in front of our superiors.
-Walking out with an uncapped cup of your own pee, almost tripping on a rug and spilling it all over the nice tech's workstation. And he saw the whole thing... Awkward. "I would have had to fight you..I don't know you, but I'd fight you.."
Friday, I slept.
Now that's a condensed version of how I was invited to training. I met so many incredible people throughout this process. I felt God's presence guiding me through every challenge, & He is so good. He gave me His peace during the whole process. Thinking of the interviews as learning experiences & not expecting anything to come of them really helped me to relax and be myself. I am such a blessed blessed lady.
